Born in Carrbridge in Scotland's Highlands region on November 7, 1991, Rachel Sermanni began singing with her brother and sister, before learning guitar and composing her first songs. Attracted by folk music, she was performing in clubs in and around Glasgow, when she met the members of Mumford & Sons after one of their concerts. From this meeting and the resulting impromptu jam in a pub, she ended up supporting the band at London's Dingwalls in 2011. The musician then toured with Fink, Elvis Costello and Rumer, before releasing her debut EP Black Currents for the Rough Trade label in 2012. That same year, she signed with Middle of Nowhere Records to release her debut album Under Mountains, followed by an appearance at Reading Festival and on BBC Scotland's Hogmanay. The album, which reached #26 in the Scottish charts and #23 in the UK independent charts, is supported by an extensive tour resulting in the live album Live in Dawson City (2014). Rachel Sermanni then recorded the album Tied to the Moon (2015), the EP Gently (2016) and a third studio album, So It Turns (2019). During the Covid-19 pandemic, she devoted herself to her podcast Rachel Sermanni's Finger That Points to the Moon, before returning to the studio for "Swallow Me" (2021), followed by "Every Swimming Pool Runs to the Sea" (2022) and the album Dreamer Awake (2023), which reached No. 8 in Scotland.
