Rabbani

Rabbani, a quasi‑traditional nasheed group was formed in Malaysia by lead vocalist Mohammed Asri Ibrahim and a 13‑member lineup; Ibrahim had previously performed with NadaMurni before its dissolution following the 1994 ban of Al‑Arqam. The group’s self‑titled debut album Rabbani (1997) sold over 90 000 copies, propelled by tracks such as "Assalamualaikum" and "Munajat", and established Rabbani as a prominent name in Islamic and world music circles. Subsequent releases followed a steady cadence: Arah (1998), Iqrar 1421 (2000), Intifada (2000), Qiblat (2002), Epik (2003), Maulana (2005), Mahabbah (2012), and Ittihad (2018), each contributing to the group’s expanding discography and touring schedule, which included performances in Kuwait, Malaysia’s National Stadium, and the Expo Gaya Hidup Islam in 2015. In 2009, the death of Mohammed Asri Ibrahim from a heart attack prompted a leadership transition to Zulkiflee, after which the group continued as an eight‑member ensemble. Rabbani’s work earned recognition in the Malaysian music industry, with multiple albums charting on local sales lists and the group receiving accolades for its contributions to contemporary nasheed; posthumous releases such as Mahabbah (2009) and compilations like Best Hit Nostalgia Hari Raya Aidilfitri Koleksi 30 Lagu Hit Nostalgia Hari Raya (2014) sustained the group’s legacy in the region.
