Pure Sugar

Pure Sugar was a short-lived dance-pop outfit whose unique brand of house music revolutionized dance floors around the world in the late 90s. Composed of legendary dance producers Richard “Humpty” Visson and Peter Lorimer, plus singer-songwriter Jennifer Starr, the trio released their eponymous studio debut in 1998 via Geffen Records. The album’s saccharine concoction of house music with disco, trance, and jungle made it an instant club favorite, spawning a trio of well-received singles that became very popular in the dance music scene. “Delicious,” “Hands to Heaven,” and “These Are the Times” all made it to the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, cementing the group’s reputation as true hitmakers. That same year, they received an award for Best Dance Group in the World at the Winter Music Dance Conference and were featured on the TV soundtrack for Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Despite their success, Pure Sugar disbanded shortly after the release of their first album. In the subsequent years, Visson and Lorimer found critical acclaim as remixers, and Starr pursued a career as a photographer.
