Prism

Prism, a Canadian rock band formed in Vancouver in 1977. They were originally active from 1977 to 1984 and reunited from 1987 until their disbandment. The classic line-up consisted of lead singer Ron Tabak, guitarist Lindsay Mitchell, keyboardist John Hall, bassist Allen Harlow, and drummer Rocket Norton. The band's sound blended album-oriented rock (AOR) with pop rock. Prism was the brainchild of musician-producer Bruce Fairbairn, who initially formed the group from members of two local Vancouver bands, Sunshyne and Seeds of Time.Prism released their self-titled debut album Prism in May 1977 on GRT Records (Ariola Records in the US). The band's breakthrough came with the release of "Don't Let Him Know" from their 1981 album Small Change, which reached number 40 on the US charts. Prism won the Juno Award for Group of the Year in 1981. They continued to record and perform during the 1990s and 2000s, releasing albums like Jericho (1993) and Big Black Sky (2008). The band also achieved cultural milestones such as having their song "Spaceship Superstar" (1977) chosen as the wake-up song for the Space Shuttle Discovery crew members in March 2011. Notable former group members include international record producer Bruce Fairbairn, songwriter Jim Vallance, and musician Ab Bryant. Even though Prism disbanded following the death of Ron Tabak on March 27th, 2015, several of its members reunited for one-off live performances between 2018 and 2023. Drummer Rocket Norton passed away on April 5, 2024.
