Prem Joshua

Prem Joshua is a German multi-instrumentalist and composer born in 1958. He began playing the flute at age five and the saxophone at age 12, performing with local ensembles during his youth. At age 18, he traveled overland to India to study indigenous folk music and later learned the sitar under Ustad Usman Khan and the bansoori. Joshua adopted his name from his spiritual master Osho to reflect the Hindi word for love. He achieved professional recognition for his fusion of Eastern and Western music, launching the project Terra Incognita and releasing the albums No Goal But The Path (1991) and Tribal Gathering (1992). He launched his solo career with the studio recording Tales of a Dancing River (1993) and followed this with Desert Visions (1995). Joshua co-founded the group Hamsafar, with whom he issued the album Lifeprints (1998) before they disbanded in 2000. His discography includes the studio recordings Water Down The Ganges (2001), Yatri (2004), and Luminous Secrets (2010). His subsequent work includes the albums Breath of Voavah (2017) and Soma (2021).
