Peter Petrel

Peter Petrel, born Peter Sauer on April 14, 1940, in Bad Frankenhausen, Germany, is a German singer known for his work in pop and schlager music. He began his career as a skiffle and jazz singer, making his first public appearance in 1958 and gained early recognition performing with Johnny’s New Orleans Jatzband from 1960 onwards. Petrel's breakthrough came in 1972 as part of the duo Windows with Jeannie McKinley, achieving a Number 1 hit with "How Do You Do?". The English version sold approximately 600,000 copies, while the German version reached 1.3 million sales. In 1974, Petrel joined the Rentnerband and contributed to their album ...alles klar, which included the hit "Hamburger Deern", a cover of The Scaffold's "Liverpool Lou". This song stayed in the German charts for 16 weeks and won the Goldene Europa award. Throughout his career, Petrel released numerous albums including Dreamland Orchestra Meets Peter Petrel (1977), Peter Petrel And The Dreamland Orchestra (1977), and Jazz & Ähnliches (1979). He also had successful singles such as "Ich Bin Viel Zu Bescheiden" and "Ein Mann Wie Ein Baum", which led to his own television shows produced by ZDF.
