Peter A. Schmid

Peter A. Schmid, born on October 2, 1959, in Zürich, Switzerland, is an improvisational musician and physician. Schmid began his musical journey by attending the Jazzschule Luzern starting in 1980, where he studied under Urs Leimgruber. His early career included performances with the Q 4 Orchestra alongside Jürg Grau, Hans Anliker, and Werner Lüdi. Over the past three decades, Schmid has been active in various ensembles, including the quintet September Wind with Evan Parker, Hans Anliker, and Jürg Solothurnmann, which released their debut album in 2000. He also led the quartet Schmilz, featuring Michel Pilz. Notable collaborations include duets with Vinny Golia, Evan Parker, Pierre Favre, Lucas Niggli, Nils Wogram, Barry Guy, Ned Rothenberg, and Mathias Ziegler. Notable releases include September Duos (2000), Schmilz (2001) and Chicago Conversations (2015).
