Pedro Machado Abrunhosa was born in Porto, Portugal on 20 December 1960 and emerged as a singer, songwriter, and composer. Trained in jazz, he began performing with jazz bands in the 1980s and taught at music schools before coâfounding the Jazz School of Porto. His solo breakthrough came in 1994 with the album Viagens, which sold over 140,000 copies and reached number one on the Portuguese charts, making him one of the most successful artists in the country at that time. The following year he released the EP F., and in 1996 he launched Tempo, which also topped the charts and earned doubleâplatinum status. Subsequent releasesâSilêncio (1999), Momento (2002), Luz (2007), Longe (2010), Contramão (2013), and Espiritual (2018)âeach achieved significant chart positions, with six of his eight studio albums reaching number one. He collaborated with international artists such as Maceo Parker and Princeâs New Power Generation horn section, and performed tours across Europe, North America, and Brazil. Abrunhosa received multiple awards, including several Blitz Awards in the late 1990s, and served on the board of the Portuguese Authors Society. His consistent presence in Portuguese pop and jazz circles has solidified his role as an important contributor to contemporary Portuguese music.
