After making her mainstream debut as a member of the Japanese alternative rock group Bish, vocalist Ayuni D restructured her sound and image by launching PEDRO in 2018. Based in Tokyo, Japan, the PEDRO project paired Ayuni D with guitarist Hisako Tabuchi and drummer Shōta Mōhri. The band's blend of J-pop and rock was introduce a debut EP, Zoozoosea, which was released in September 2018 and reached number 10 on the Oricon chart. After signing with EMI Records, the band released a full-length album, Thumb Sucker, in 2019. Like PEDRO's previous release, Thumb Sucker was a Top 10 album in Japan, reaching number 9 on the Oricon Albums chart. Roman followed in 2020 and charted at number 9, too, with the lead single "Konaide World End" reaching number 12 on the Oricon Singles chart. The Shōdō Ningen Club EP arrived before the year was up and found similar success, peaking at number 7. The non-album single "Tokyo" hit number 18 on the Oricon Singles chart in 2021, followed several months later by PEDRO's third full-length album, Gojitsu Aratamete Ukagaimasu, which climbed to number 6 on the Oricon Albums chart and number 8 on Billboard Japan Hot Albums. Although PEDRO took a hiatus following the album's release, the band reunited in 2023, following Bish's breakup. This revised version of the band featured a new drummer, Yumao, who had previously played with hitorie. In July 2023, the group reissued Gojitsu Aratamete Ukagaimashita.
