Paul Brandon Gilbert, born 6â¯Novemberâ¯1966 in Carbondale, Illinois, is an American guitarist who emerged from the Pittsburgh suburb of Greensburg and began playing at six. He is best known as co-founder of hard rock supergroup Mr. Big and as the guitarist for heavy metal band Racer X. His first recording was with Racerâ¯Xâs Streetâ¯Lethal (1986), followed by the solo album King of Clubs (1998). Over the following decades he released studio and live albums, including Flyingâ¯Dog (1998), Alligatorâ¯Farm (2000), Fuzzâ¯Universe (2010), Silenceâ¯Followedâ¯byâ¯aâ¯Deafeningâ¯Roar (2008) and Beholdâ¯Electricâ¯Guitar (2019), and a 2023 collaboration Theâ¯Dioâ¯Album. The album Wroc followed in February of 2026. Gilbert coâfounded Mr.â¯Big, contributing to the international hit "Toâ¯Beâ¯withâ¯You" (1991) that reached Numberâ¯1 on the Billboard Hotâ¯100, and performed with Racerâ¯X at the 2009 NAMM Show. His work remains influential in metal and instructional guitar literature.
