Patrick Layton Paulsen (1927–1997) was an American comedian and satirist renowned for his work on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour and his satirical presidential campaigns from 1968 to 1996. Born in South Bend, Washington, Paulsen later moved to California, where he graduated high school in 1945. After briefly serving in the Marine Corps during World War II, he worked various jobs, attended San Francisco City College, and developed a comedy career. His collaboration with the Smothers Brothers in 1967 catapulted him to fame, earning him an Emmy Award in 1968 for his deadpan political humor. Paulsen also appeared on The Monkees, Sesame Street, and The Tonight Show, and starred in his own series, Pat Paulsen's Half a Comedy Hour. Paulsen had released several albums, including Pat Paulsen for President (1968), Live at the Ice House (1970), and Unzipped (1998).
