Papooz is a Parisian duo made up of singers and guitarists Ulysse Cottin and Armand Pénicaut, two friends influenced by The Beach Boys and The Velvet Underground records their parents listened to. Formed in 2012, the duo first made a name for themselves opening for artists such as Matthieu Chédid, Isaac Delusion and The Neighbourhood. That's how they showcased their airy indie pop-rock, cradled mostly by strings and two voices in harmony. A debut EP saw the light of day in early 2015, buoyed by the singles "Ulysses and the Sea" and "Ann Wants to Dance". which managed to seduce a wider audience. The latter was still present when, a year later, Papooz delivered their first proper album, Green Juice, which saw the two friends explore the territories of pop, folk and soft rock. On its release in June 2016, Green Juice made its way to number 144 on the SNEP chart. It was followed in 2019 by Night Sketches, which reached No. 184. Released in 2024, the third album Resonate benefits the same year from an enhanced edition entitled Resonate Augmented. The group then collaborated with a wide range of artists for its fourth opus Papooz & Friends, released in January 2026 and featuring contributions from Zé Ibarra, Molly Lewis, Erlend Ãye, Arto Lindsay, Sofia Bolt, Hugo Hamlet, Reni Lane, Saxa Goth and the Oracle Sisters.
