Pacific Symphony

Pacific Symphony, a classical music orchestra based in Orange County, California, gave its first performance on April 2, 1978, at the Plummer Auditorium in Fullerton, California. The ensemble began with a $2,000 grant and support from local musicians. By 1981, the orchestra performed at Knott’s Berry Farm before moving its concerts to the Santa Ana High School auditorium in 1983, when it also made its first recording and hired a full-time manager. In October 1986, Pacific Symphony became a resident company at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, now part of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Keith Clark served as music director from 1979 until 1988, followed by an interregnum period before Carl St.Clair was appointed music director in 1990. St.Clair continues in this role, and Alexander Shelley is scheduled to succeed him starting in 2025. The orchestra is known for its performances at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall and its role as a major cultural institution in Orange County.
