Pablo Cruise

Formed in San Francisco, California in 1973, Pablo Cruise is a sophisticated soft rock band best known for the 1978 hit “Love Will Find a Way.” Founded by David Jenkins (guitar / vocal), Cory Lerios (keyboards / vocals), Bud Cockrell (bass / vocals), and Steve Price (drums), Pablo Cruise blend of pop, jazz, and rock was later called ‘soft rock,’ ‘easy rock,’ and more recently, ‘yacht rock.’ Formed by former members of Stoneground and It’s a Beautiful Day, Pablo Cruise signed with A&M Records and released their self-titled debut album in 1975. The album was not a massive success but did reach number 174 on the Billboard 200. Their sophomore album, Lifeline, did slightly better and hit number 139. However, the band’s sophisticated pop sound finally connected with a commercial audience with the release of their 1977 album A Place in the Sun, which made it to number 19. The album featured the Top 10 single “Whatcha Gonna Do” and the title track, which reached number 42. Founding bassist Bud Cockrell left the band and was replaced by Bruce Day. Their biggest success came the following year when they released the album Worlds Away (1978) and the single “Love Will Find a Way” (number 6). The album also included the charting singles “I Don’t Want to Live Without It” and “I Go to Rio.” 1979’s Part of the Game was also a big seller and included the Top 20 single “I Want You Tonight.” Bassist Bruce Day left the band and was replaced by John Pierce. The group also added guitarist Angelo Rossi to the line-up. Pablo Cruise released the album Reflector in 1981, which included the number 13 hit “Cool Love.” More line-up changes occurred before the release of the synth-heavy album Out of Our Hands was released in 1983, which was not a commercial success like previous albums. Bud Cockrell returned to the line-up in 1985, although his stay was brief and Pablo Cruise broke up in 1986. Members of the band reunited several times with various original members but by 2004, Pablo Cruise became a full-time band again for David Jenkins and Cory Lerios (plus new members). In 2020, they released the single “Breathe.”
