Ornella Vanoni

Born in Milan, Italy on September 22, 1934, Omella Vanoni OMRI is an acclaimed pop singer who has sold over 65 million records and is referred to as one of the greatest Italian pop singers of all time. She started singing in 1956 and released several singles in 1958 and 1959 before coming to prominence in 1960 when she began to balance singing with an acting career in theater. In 1963, her musical career took priority when she scored two chart hits written for her by Gino Paoli: "Senza Fine" and "Che Cosa C'è". A year later, Omella Vanoni took the top prize at the Festival di Napoli with her performance of "Tu Si Na Cosa Grande". She continued her winning streak throughout most of the 1960s with successful performances at the Sanremo Music Festival. Her most popular songs during this period include "Abbracciami Forte" (1965), "Io Ti Darò Di Più" (1966), "La Musica È Finita" (1967), and "Casa Bianca" (1968). Further popular songs in her repertoire include "L'Appuntamento", "Una Ragione Di Più", "Un'ora Sola Ti Vorrei", and "Non Dirmi Niente", a cover of Burt Bacharach's "Don't Make Me Over”. Her success continued throughout the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and beyond as she released more solo material as well as recording several duets with singers such as Vinicius de Moraes, Gino Paoli, Enzo Gragnaniello, and others. While she had dabbled in acting, making cameos in several films during her career, she began performing on stage again in the 1970s. She also showed up frequently on television. In 2004, Omella Vanoni experienced a career resurgence when her 1970 single "L'Appuntamento" was featured in the hit film Ocean’s Twelve. With over 100 releases – includes LPs, singles, EPs, and compilations – she remains one of Italy’s most beloved stars.
