Orhan Gencebay, born Orhan Kencebay on August 4, 1944, in Samsun, Turkey, is a singer, composer, producer, musical director, and actor. He began his musical journey at a young age, taking classical Western music lessons and learning to play various instruments including the bağlama. Gencebay's early compositions showcased his mastery of traditional Turkish melodies. He moved to Istanbul in the 1960s, where he studied at the city’s conservatory and performed with various groups. His breakthrough came with the release of "Bir Teselli Ver" in 1970, a song that blended traditional Turkish folk music with modern urban influences.
