Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino

The Orchestre du Mai musical florentin is an Italian symphony orchestra based in Florence, founded in 1928 by Vittorio Gui under the name Orchestra Stabile de Florence. It adopted its current name in 1933 with the creation of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino festival. The orchestra performs both symphonic and operatic seasons in Florence. Its principal conductors have included Vittorio Gui, Mario Rossi, Igor Markevitch, Bruno Bartoletti, Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, and Fabio Luisi. The orchestra has been associated with the creation and performance of works by composers such as Ivan Fedele, Gian Francesco Malipiero, Riccardo Malipiero, Franco Mannino, and Guido Turchi.
