Ophthalamia

Ophthalamia was a Swedish black metal band formed in Stockholm in 1989 by vocalist Jim Berger and guitarist Tony Särkkä, who were also members of Abruptum and Vondur. The band's name was inspired by a fantasy world created by Särkkä, featuring its own geography, creatures, language, and a demon woman goddess called Elishia. Ophthalamia released their debut album, A Journey in Darkness, in 1994, followed by Via Dolorosa in 1995. In 1997, they released the compilation album To Elishia. The band's final studio albums, Dominion and a re-recorded version of their debut titled A Long Journey, were both released in 1998. Ophthalamia disbanded later that year. Former vocalist Jon Nödtveidt died by suicide in 2006, and founder Tony Särkkä passed away in 2017. A posthumous compilation album, II Elishia II, was released in 2019.
