Onslaught are a British thrash metal band from Bristol, England, formed in 1982. Renowned for their ferocious aggression and explosive energy, they are widely regarded as one of the most influential forces in the global thrash metal scene. Emerging from the UK hardcore punk scene, Onslaught drew inspiration from bands like Discharge and The Exploited, as well as the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM). Their debut album, Power from Hell (1985), showcased their raw intensity and marked the beginning of their ascent in the metal world. This was followed by The Force (1986) and In Search of Sanity (1989), the latter featuring vocalist Steve Grimmett and achieving UK chart success. After disbanding in 1991, Onslaught reunited in 2005 with founding guitarist Nige Rockett leading a revitalized lineup. The band resumed their relentless touring schedule, performing in over 70 countries and earning a reputation as one of the most formidable live acts in metal. In 2022, they were inducted into the Metal Hall of Fame during their performance at Deathfest Maryland. Onslaught's recent albums include Killing Peace (2007), Sounds of Violence (2011), VI (2013), and Generation Antichrist (2020). In 2025, they released Origins of Aggression, a double album celebrating their 40th anniversary. The first disc features re-recordings of classic tracks, while the second pays tribute to their punk and metal influences with covers of seminal songs.
