Old & In The Way was formed in 1973 in Sanâ¯Francisco, United States, by guitarist and vocalist Peter Rowan, fiddler Vassar Clements, banjoist and vocalist Jerry Garcia, mandolinist and vocalist David Grisman, and bassist John Kahn. The group quickly established a reputation for traditional bluegrass, performing pieces such as "Pig in a Pen" and bluegrassâstyled renditions of the Rolling Stonesâ "Wild Horses" and Peter Rowanâs "Panama Red". The group played a total of almost fifty shows in 1973. The bandâs selfâtitled debut album was released in 1975. The group, without Jerry Garcia and John Kahn, released the reunion album Old & In the Gray in 2002. The bandâs legacy endures through subsequent releases such as That High Lonesome Sound (1996) and Live at the Boarding House (The Complete Shows) (2013).
