Oku Onuora

Orlando Wong, known as Oku Onuora, was born on March 9, 1952, in Kingston, Jamaica. He grew up in Franklin Town and began writing poetry while imprisoned for armed robberies. His breakthrough came in 1974 when he performed with Cedric Brooks' band The Light of Saba at Fort Augusta Prison. Onuora's first collection of poetry, ECHO, was published in 1978, followed by his debut musical release, "Reflections in Red" (1979), recorded with the Wailers rhythm section. He toured extensively in Europe and the United States, releasing albums such as Pressure Drop (1984) and New Jerusalem Dub (1991). Onuora collaborated with musicians like Courtney Panton and Monty Alexander, and his album A Movement was released in 2013. His most recent album is I've Seen, released in 2019.
