Of Montreal

Of Montreal was formed in 1996 in Athens, Georgia. The band released experimental singles “She’s a Rejecter” and “Everything About Her Is Wrong”, establishing a quirky sonic identity blending pop hooks with psychedelic flourishes. Their first major release, the Cherry Peel EP (1997), introduced whimsical storytelling, followed by the The Bedside Drama: A Petite Tragedy (1998). Subsequent albums-The Gay Parade (1999), Coquelicot Asleep in the Poppies: A Variety of Whimsical Verse (2001), and Satanic Panic in the Attic (2004)-expanded the cult following, while the 2007 landmark Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? solidified the reputation for elaborate concept projects. Later works, including UR FUN (2020), Lady on the Cusp (2024), and Aethermead (2026), showcased continued experimentation and a steady release cadence. Despite occasional lineup changes, Of Montreal maintained a dedicated fan base, with several releases charting on independent and college radio charts and earning critical acclaim for their inventive approach to pop and psychedelia.
