Nyboma

Nyboma Mwan’dido was born on December 24, 1952 in Nioki, Democratic Republic of the Congo. He began singing in church and school choirs after his family moved to Kinshasa. His early professional career started in 1969 with Orchestre Baby National; he later joined Orchestre Negro Succès before 1970. In 1972 he joined Orchestre Bella Bella under the label of Verckys Kiamuangana Mateta, contributing to the hit “Mbuta” that was considered a major song that year. In 1973 he co‑founded Orchestre Lipua Lipua and sang on its first release, the hit “Kamale,” until his departure in 1975. He then formed Orchestre Kamale (later renamed Les Kamale), which produced dance‑band hits during the late 1970s. In 1981 Nyboma moved to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, where he recorded one of his biggest hits “Double Double” with his band. He relocated to Paris in 1982. There he co‑founded Les Quatre Étoiles with Bopol Mputu, Syran Mbenza, and Wuta Mayi. The group recorded and toured from 1982 to 1996. Nyboma’s career spans over fifty years, distinguished by his tenor vocals and his major contributions to Congolese soukous music.
