NG La Banda

NG La Banda, a Cuban musical group founded in 1988 by flutist José Luis "El Tosco" Cortés, emerged from the marginal barrios of Havana. Initially an experimental side-project called "Nueva Generación", the band pioneered the timba genre. Albums include En la calle (1989) and No se puede tapar el sol con un dedo (1990). These releases introduced timba, featuring rhythmically dense and energetic music. Notable tracks include "La expresiva" (1989), featuring lead vocals by Issac Delgado. The band's influence became a cultural phenomenon reflecting the voice of marginalized communities in Havana and inspiring many other timba bands throughout the 1990s.
