Morten Schantz

Morten Silberg Schantz, born on October 19, 1980, in Aarhus, Denmark, and raised in Kalundborg, is a jazz pianist. He began playing classical piano at age six but later shifted his focus to jazz after finding renewed inspiration from a new teacher. In 1997, Schantz formed his first trio and released the demo album Cantaloupe Island the following year. He then established The Morten Schantz Segment in 1998 with Mikkel Uhrenholdt on saxophone and Jesper Thomsen on drums. In 2005, Schantz co-founded JazzKamikaze, which won the Young Nordic Jazz Comets award that same year. Notable albums include Unicorn (2014) and Godspeed (2017). The latter album received critical acclaim from Roger Farbey in All About Jazz. Schantz has also collaborated with bands like Mikhalized, contributing to their debut album Jazz Muffin (2003).
