Morrissey

Steven Patrick Morrissey, born on September 22, 1959 in Manchester, England, was a singer and songwriter. After studying art and working in a local factory, he formed The Smiths with guitarist Johnny Marr, bassist Andy Rourke, drummer Mike Joyce and bassist Craig Gannon. The group signed with Hughes & Harlow and released "This Charming Man" in 1983, followed by the debut album The Smiths in 1984, which reached number 19 on the UK Albums Chart. Subsequent releases Meat Is Murder (1985), The Queen Is Dead (1986), and Strangeways, Here We Come (1987) saw the band attain top‑20 singles such as "Panic" and "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out", and the band performed a final UK tour in 1987 before disbanding. Morrissey pursued a solo career, signing with Capitol and releasing Viva Hate (1988), Kill Uncle (1991), Your Arsenal (1992), Vauxhall and I (1994), Southpaw Grammar (1995), Maladjusted (1997), You Are the Quarry (2004), Ringleader of the Tormentors (2006), Years of Refusal (2009), World Peace Is None of Your Business (2014), Low in High School (2017), California Son (2019), I Am Not a Dog on a Chain (2020), and Make‑Up Is a Lie (2026). His work earned him an Ivor Novello Award in 1991 and a Grammy nomination in 2008.
