Minako Honda

Minako Honda, born Minako Kudō on 31 July 1967 in Tokyo, Japan, was a singer and actor known for her contributions to idol music. She began her career in 1985 under the pseudonym Honda, inspired by Seiko Matsuda and Madonna's look. Her debut singles, including "Satsui no Vacance" and "Suki to Iinasai", quickly gained traction, leading to a sold-out performance at Tokyo's Budokan within a year. Collaborations with notable musicians such as Brian May and John Deacon of Queen, Gary Moore, Joe Jackson, and Guy Fletcher of Dire Straits further boosted her career. She also ventured into acting, starring in films like Passenger - Sugisari Shihibi (1987). Despite initial success, her popularity waned by the late 1980s. She attempted a shift to rock music with Minako with Wildcats, but disbanded after limited success. In the early 1990s, she transitioned into musical theatre and classical/religious music, finding renewed success with productions like Miss Saigon. She is also recognised for her theme songs in anime series such as "Rarabai - Yasashiku Dakasete" from Magic Knight Rayearth (1994) and "Kaze no Uta" from Hunter × Hunter (1998). Honda was diagnosed with leukaemia in January 2005 and passed away on 6 November 2005.
