Michel Martelly

Michel Martelly is a Haitian musician and politician who was born in 1961. Professionally known as “Sweet Micky”, he achieved professional prominence as a pioneer of the “new generation” style of kompa music, characterized by the use of synthesizers and electronic instruments. Martelly began a recording career in 1988 and released his debut single, “Ou La La”, followed by the studio albums Woule Woule (1989) and Anba Rad La (1990). His discography includes the recordings I Don't Care (1994), Pa Manyen (1995), and Tout Cé Mately (1996). Between 2011 and 2016, he served as the President of Haiti. In 2024, he received international sanctions for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking and the sponsorship of criminal gangs.
