M(h)aol

M(h)aol (pronounced “male”) are an Irish feminist post-punk band known for their confrontational sound, incisive lyricism, and unwavering commitment to social justice. Formed in 2015 by singer Róisín Nic Ghearailt, drummer Constance Keane, bassist/vocalist Jamie Hyland, bassist Zoë Greenway, and guitarist Sean Nolan, the band emerged from Dublin’s vibrant underground scene with a mission to disrupt the male-dominated post-punk landscape. Their debut EP, Gender Studies (2021), was a raw and urgent response to gender binaries and systemic misogyny. The EP garnered critical acclaim and solidified M(h)aol’s reputation as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary feminist punk. Tracks like “Gender Studies” and “No One Ever Talks To Us” showcased their ability to blend political commentary with infectious energy. In February 2023, M(h)aol released their highly anticipated debut album, Attachment Styles, via TULLE Collective. The album delves into themes of social connection, queerness, and healing, using the psychological theory of attachment styles as a framework. The record received widespread praise, and the band signed to Merge Records for the re-release of the album, which included the previously unreleased track “Jack." Known for their electrifying live performances, M(h)aol has graced stages at festivals such as Primavera Sound, Green Man, Latitude, and End of the Road, and has toured Europe with Gilla Band and Shellac. In 2024, bassist Zoë Greenway departed the band to focus on her film career, leaving behind a legacy of impactful music videos and artwork. Despite this change, M(h)aol continues to evolve, with Constance Keane, Jamie Hyland, and Sean Nolan leading the charge forward. Something Soft, their second album and first recorded as a trio, came out in 2025.
