Melora Creager

Melora Creager, born March 25, 1966, in Kansas City, Missouri, is an American cellist, singer-songwriter, and performing artist. She began playing the cello at age nine and was a member of the Wichita Youth Symphony. In the late 1980s, she played with the New York indie rock band Ultra Vivid Scene. In 1991, Creager founded the alternative cello ensemble Rasputina by placing a want-ad in the Village Voice. In 1993, the group released a promo titled Transylvanian Concubine/The Vaulted Eel, Lesson No. 6 under the label Oculus. The group signed to Columbia Records in 1996, releasing albums like Thanks for the Ether (1996). In 2005, they began releasing music under Creager's own label, Filthy Bonnet Recording Co., with notable releases including Oh Perilous World (2007), Melora a la Basilica (2008), and The Willow Tree Triptych (2009).
