Melanie Martinez

Melanie Martinez, born Melanie Adele Martinez on April 28 1995 in Astoria, Queens, New York, began songwriting in kindergarten before teaching herself guitar at fourteen. Her breakthrough came after competing on The Voice in 2012, where she performed "Toxic" and later signed with Atlantic Records, releasing the single "Dollhouse" in February 2014 and the self‑titled EP in May 2014. In August 2015 she launched her debut studio album Cry Baby, which debuted at number 6 on the Billboard 200 and was later certified double platinum; singles such as "Pity Party", "Soap", and "Mrs. Potato Head" achieved top positions on alternative and pop charts. The follow‑up albums K–12 (September 2019) and Portals (March 2023) both entered the Billboard 200 at the top five, with Portals reaching number 2 and spawning singles "Death" and "Void" that charted on the Hot 100. In March 2026 she released Hades, expanding her discography further. Throughout her career, Martinez has toured extensively, supporting the albums Cry Baby, K–12, and Portals tours-performed collaborations with Tierra Whack and others, and maintained a visual aesthetic influenced by Tim Burton and Mark Ryden. Her work has earned multiple nominations for visual effects and has solidified her presence in contemporary pop and art‑pop scenes.
