Mega City Four was formed in Farnborough, Hampshire, United Kingdom, in 1987 by guitaristâvocalist Wiz Brown, rhythm guitarist Danny Brown, bassist Gerry Bryant and drummer Chris Jones; the group emerged from earlier school bands and a brief stint as Capricorn. Their breakthrough came with the 1988 single "Miles Apart" / "Running in Darkness", which attracted local press and led to gigs with Senseless Things and Snuff. In 1989 the band released their debut album Tranzophobia, followed in 1990 by Who Cares Wins and a compilation Terribly Sorry Bob (1991). Signing to a major label produced Sebastopol Rd. (1992), which peaked at number 41, and Magic Bullets (1993), featuring singles "Iron Sky" (number 48) and "Wallflower" (number 69). After a dispute with the label, Mega City Four moved to Fire Records and issued their final studio album Soulscraper in 1996. The band disbanded the same year; Wiz Brown later relocated to Montreal, joined Doughboys, and formed Serpico and Ipanema before dying in December 2006 from a cerebral blood clot. Posthumous recognition includes a 2010 Muse cover of "Prague" and a 2013 reâissue of Sebastopol Rd. with unreleased material.
