McFadden & Whitehead

Gene McFadden and John Whitehead, known as McFadden & Whitehead, were an American R&B duo from Philadelphia. They met in the 1960s and initially formed a group called The Epsilons before signing a small record deal with Stax Records in 1967. After touring with Otis Redding until his death that year and releasing "The Echo" in 1970, they changed their name to Talk of the Town and worked with Gamble/Huff on their North Bay label. By this time, McFadden & Whitehead were already writing and producing for other artists. They signed to Philadelphia International Records (PIR) in 1977 where they officially formed under their eponymous name. The duo achieved peak success with "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" from the album Mc Fadden & Whitehead in 1979, which topped R&B charts and reached number 13 on pop charts, selling eight million records worldwide. After leaving PIR, they re-recorded "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" as "Ain't No Stoppin' (Ain't No Way)". John Whitehead was murdered in Philadelphia on May 11, 2004. Gene McFadden died of liver and lung cancer on January 27, 2006.
