MC Tha

MC Tha is a Brazilian singer and songwriter. Born Thaís Dayane da Silva on July 5 1993 in the São Paulo neighborhood of Tiradentes, MC Tha became interested in writing poems and rhymes from a very early age. As a teenager, she started becoming involved in the Brazilian funk scene, gaining notoriety for her youth and being one of the few female MCs. After a brief time away from music to focus on her studies, she was encouraged to return to singing by her friend, popular singer and producer Jaloo. In 2014 she released her first official single “Olha Quem Chegou,” produced by Jaloo, which increased her profile in the local scene. In 2016 she released “Pra Você,” followed by “Bonde da Pantera” the following year. She would go on to release acoustic versions of these singles on her 2018 EP Versões. In 2019 she collaborated with singer Matteus Carrilho on the song “Sonzeira”. In June of that year, MC Tha released her debut full-length album Rito de Passá, which gained critical acclaim for her combination of hip-hop, samba, Brazilian funk, and pop styles. The album was recognized as one of the 25 best Brazilian albums of the second half of 2019 by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics, containing tracks such as the hit “Coração Vagabundo” and the contemplative “Oceano,” which broke into the Brazilian Top 200.
