MC Rene

René El Khazraje, known professionally as MC Rene, was born on 11 September 1976 in Braunschweig, Germany, and emerged as a German‑Moroccan rapper and singer. He began performing in 1991 at hip‑hop jams and joined the group State of Departmentz, releasing a track on the 1993 sampler That’s Real Underground. His breakthrough came with the 1994 single "Die Neue Reimgeneration" and the 1995 release of his debut album Renevolution on MZEE Records. In 1999, after a contract stalemate with MZEE, he released the Reneflektion compilation and featured on DJ Tomekks "1, 2, 3… Rhymes Galore", which helped him gain wider visibility. The 2000 single "Ich Würde Alles Für Dich Tun" preceded his commercially oriented album Ein Album Namens Bernd, which received mixed reviews. In 2002 he released Scheiss Auf Euren Hip Hop under Improversum, followed by a period of limited output. A resurgence occurred with the 2015 album Renessance, produced with Carl Crinx, which entered the German charts and was followed by a national tour. In 2016 he issued Khazraje on Krekpek Records, featuring collaborations with Retrogott and Toni‑L. Subsequent releases include Master of Ceremony (2019) and Irgendwas stimmt (2021). In 2022 he digitally re‑released Ein Album Namens Bernd, and in 2023 launched a vinyl edition through a successful crowdfunding campaign.
