MC Mong

Shin Dong-hyun, known professionally as MC Mong, was born on 4 September 1979, in Seoul, South Korea and is recognised for his roles as a rapper, record producer, radio personality, actor, and television personality. He began his career in 1998 as a member of the hip-hop group People Crew, releasing three albums between 1999 and 2002. MC Mong's breakthrough came through acting, notably on the sitcom Nonstop 4 in 2003, which propelled him to mainstream popularity. He made his solo debut as a rapper with the album 180 Degree in 2004, followed by His Story in 2005. His third album, The Way I Am, released in 2006, showcased a more serious side and topped the charts. In 2007, he starred in the TV adaptation of The Great Catsby and began hosting his own radio show on SBS Radio. MC Mong's fourth album, Show's Just Begun, was released in 2008 and featured the immensely popular single "Circus". His fifth album, Humanimal, followed in 2009. In 2010, MC Mong faced controversy over draft dodging allegations, leading to a hiatus from public appearances. He returned in 2014 with the album Miss Me Or Diss Me, which topped nine Korean music charts. Throughout his career, MC Mong has been known for his comic disposition and upbeat songs, making him one of the most commercially successful hip-hop artists in Korea. He released several albums during the 2010s, including Channel 8 (2019), with Flower 9 following in 2021.
