Max Cooper

Originally from Belfast (Northern Ireland), composer, DJ and producer Max Cooper (born of Australian parents on May 19, 1980) learnt to play the violin at the age of twelve, and became involved in electronic music after completing a PhD in biology. Noticed by specialist websites for his live performances, he released the Conditions One EP in 2012, and the following year worked on his debut album Human (2014), in which his taste for minimalist techno and IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) shines through. With the Kindred EP, Max Cooper experiments with the analog synthesizer Prophet 08 and begins a collaboration with Kathrin DeBoer, then with classical pianist Tom Hodge on the following EP Artefact. In two decades of activity since 2007, he has released some thirty EPs for the Traum, Fields and Mesh labels, which he founded himself. He has also released the albums Human (2014), Emergence (2016), One Hundred Billion Sparks (2018) and Yearning for the Infinite (2019), along with remixes and compilations for the Fabric and Balance labels. Max Cooper has also contributed remixes for Au Revoir Simone, Andrew K, Hot Chip, Sasha, Michael Nyman, Guy Andrews, Christian Löffler and Rob Clouth. After a collaboration with Bruce Brubaker on Philip Glass pieces, Glassforms (2020), he produced the albums Unspoken Words (2022) and On Being (2025), later remixed by himself. In 2026, he released the album Feeling Is Structure.
