Matías Valdez Sastre—born in Mendoza, Uruguay, on April 29, 1995—emerged as a compelling voice in Uruguayan cumbia starting around 2021, quickly becoming the most-streamed Uruguayan artist that year. He debuted with a steady stream of singles in 2021, including his first release “Nace un borracho,” followed by “No quiero ser tu amigo,” “De Callados” (featuring Martín Piña), “Quédate,” “Me enamoré” (featuring Valsi), “Latidos,” “Me encanta” (featuring Lucas Sugo), and “Volver a vernos,” which helped establish his signature blend of heartfelt melody and danceable rhythm. In 2022, Matías Valdez continued his rise with popular tracks such as “Boleto al amor” (featuring Chacho Ramos), “Adiós” (featuring Gonzalo Castillo), “Lo quiero todo,” “¿A dónde vamos?,” and “Quiero un sí” (featuring Catherine Vergnes).
