Massimo Pupillo

Massimo Pupillo, born in 1969 in Ostia, Italy, is an Italian fusion and improvisation musician. He gained prominence as the bassist of the jazzcore band Zu, which recorded 15 albums and numerous singles. Pupillo's career includes collaborations with notable artists such as Thurston Moore, Jim O’Rourke, Mats Gustafsson, Paal Nilssen-Love, and Peter Brötzmann. His discography features albums like Dogon Who Is Playing in the Shadow Of Whom? (2003) and The Williamsburg Sonatas with Gianni Gebbia & Lukas Ligeti (2005). He has also released solo works, including Live at Candy Bomber Studios Vol. 1 (2017) and Our Forgotten Ancestors (2023).
