Martin Gatt

Martin Gatt (born 1937) was a British classical bassoonist from Aberdeen, Scotland. Gatt studied under Archie Camden at the Royal College of Music in London. The musician served as the principal bassoonist of the London Philharmonic Orchestra from 1958 to 1966. Gatt was the principal bassoonist of the English Chamber Orchestra between 1966 and 1976 and the bassoonist in the Barry Tuckwell Wind Quintet from 1967 to 1991. The musician taught at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama between 1967 and 1984.In 1977, Gatt was appointed principal bassoon of the London Symphony Orchestra, a position he held until 1998. He founded the Department of Wind, Brass and Percussion at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Gatt received honorary titles from the Royal College of Music and served as a professor of bassoon at the institution.
