Maria Faust, born April 18, 1979, in Kuressaare, Estonia, is a saxophonist and composer. She studied classical music at the Tallinn Music Academy from 1997 to 2001 and earned a Master's degree in Jazz Saxophone Performance in Denmark in 2008. Faust's breakthrough came with Maria Faust Jazz Catastrophe, nominated for Composer of the Year at the Danish Music Awards in 2013. Notable works include Sacrum Facere (2014), which blended Estonian folklore with jazz and classical elements, earning two Danish Music Awards, and Machina (2018). She has collaborated with artists such as Axel Dörner and Nina de Heney, and her ensemble Machina was presented at the BMW Welt Jazz Award in 2019.
