Marc Lavoine

French actor and singer Marc Lavoine (August 6, 1962) was born in Longjumeau into a music-loving family. He grew up in Paris and quickly developed a passion for the arts, dividing his time between writing songs and acting. At the age of 16, he quit his studies and joined a comedy troupe in the Rue de Chabrol. Soon after, he was introduced to Barclay A&R director Fabrice Albouker, who connected him with the Lyon-based hard rock outfit Your Vice. Things didn’t go as planned with the group and Marc Lavoine returned to acting with a supporting role on the soap opera Pause Café. Determined to get his music career back on track, he and Albouker began working together on what would become his debut single, 1983’s “Je Ne Sais Même Plus de Quoi J'ai l'Air.” Despite the initial tepid reception, follow-up singles “Pour une Biguine Avec Toi” (1984) and “Elle A les Yeux Revolver” (1985) became hits in their own right, with the latter selling over 700,000 copies and breaking into the domestic Top 5. Marc Lavoine issued his eponymous studio debut in 1985 and rapidly established himself as a major force in the French pop music scene with further titles such as Fabriqué (1987), Les Amours du Dimanche (1989), and Paris (1991). Produced by Tony Visconti, 1993’s Faux Rêveur represented a significant departure from his previous work, exploring more mature themes and an overall darker sound. After taking a break from his music career to star in Claude Chabrol’s L’Enfer, Marc Lavoine returned in 1996 with Lavoine Matic, an album that purposefully ditched love songs in favor of more delicate subjects such as prostitution and terrorism. 7éme Ciel, his last release for BMG, came out in 1999 and was followed in 2001 by a self-titled duets album that contained the chart-topping hit single “J'ai Tout Oublié" with Cristina Marocco. In subsequent years, Marc Lavoine starred in several films, most notably Marc Esposito’s Le Cœur des Hommes series, and continued his musical evolution on the albums L'Heure d'Été (2005), Volume 10 (2009), Je Descends du Singe (2012), and Je Reviens à Toi (2018), all of which enjoyed great chart performance in France. Adulte Jamais, his fourteenth studio full-length, arrived in 2022 and entered the French charts at Number 5.
