Mandelring Quartett

The Mandelring Quartet, a German string quartet from Neustadt an der Weinstraße, was founded in 1983. The ensemble consists of siblings Sebastian, Nanette, and Bernhard Schmidt, along with Andreas Willwohl. Their breakthrough came with victories at prestigious competitions such as the Premio Paolo Borciani and the ARD Competition in Munich. Following these wins, they embarked on international concert tours, performing in renowned venues across Europe, including Amsterdam, London, Paris, and Vienna. The Mandelring Quartet has also been featured at major festivals like the Rheingau Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and Salzburg Festival. They have won multiple awards, including the German Record Critics’ Award, for their recordings. Their discography includes notable albums featuring Shostakovich’s string quartets and a complete recording of Bartholdy’s string chamber music. The quartet is also known for founding and leading the Hambacher Music Festival in their hometown.
