Man Bites God

Man Bites God was a three-piece band from Melbourne, Australia, founded in 2000 by James Hazelden on guitar and vocals and Chris Tomkins on drums and vocals, who later recruited Mark Woodward on bass guitar, recorder, and vocals. Their breakthrough came when they were spotted playing at Mayfields bar in Fitzroy. The band released their debut EP, Happy Songs, in 2002, followed by another EP, Ultrasounds, later that year. Their first full-length album, Man Bites God, was released in 2003. They were known for their dark humor, which sometimes led to controversy with religious groups. Man Bites God toured regularly throughout Australia and performed at the 2004 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Notable collaborations included Rob McComb from the Triffids on Ultrasounds and Deborah Conway on "Bride of the Dragon" from The Popular Alternative.
