Los Retros

Los Retros was the Oxnard, California project founded in 2017 by Mexican-American multi-instrumentalist Mauri Tapia, who began recording at home in his early teens, first formed a band around age 16, and then reshaped it into a mostly solo outlet centered on his own vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass, and drums. Signed to Stones Throw, he broke through in 2019 with “Someone to Spend Time With” and the EP Retrospect, then followed with the more spiritual Everlasting in 2020. In 2021, Los Retros returned with Looking Back and the Spanish-language single “Solo Tú,” and Tapia took the project on tour with Chicano Batman. After a quieter stretch, “Someone to Spend Time With” reached gold status, and in 2025 he resumed releasing music with “Doves,” featuring Hikari, and the compilation Early Days (2016-2019), which gathered unreleased recordings from his teenage years. In 2026, he opened a new chapter with “Secret Admirer” and the debut full-length Odisea, an album shaped by city pop and jazz fusion, and took Los Retros to Coachella and Billboard Live in Tokyo.
