Loretta Goggi

Loretta Goggi, born in Rome on September 29, 1950, is an emblematic figure of Italian show business, active since childhood in television, music, theater and imitation. She trained in singing and music from an early age, and was spotted by presenter Silvio Gigli when she was just nine. In 1959, she won the Disco magico radio contest, which opened the door to her first recording experience, alongside appearances in TV films such as Anton Giulio Majano's Sotto processo. In the 1960s, Loretta took on a series of television roles, appearing in some of the most successful scripts, often playing sensitive young girls. She also lent her voice to numerous dubbing jobs - including that of the animated character Titi (from Titi et Gros Minet) - while continuing her studies in diction, singing and piano, and participating in classical theater. Her career took a turn for the better in the 1970s: she developed her talent as an impersonator, making a name for herself as a showgirl on RAI's flagship programs, and portraying the faces of several entertainment icons. At the same time, she made a name for herself in popular variety shows such as Canzonissima (1972), where her theme song became a hit, confirming her status as a great entertainment host, especially in the Fantastico game show (from 1979). With her sister Daniela Goggi, she formed the duo Hermanas Goggi at the end of the 1970s, and enjoyed great success, particularly internationally. As a solo artist, she quickly established herself as one of Italy's leading vocalists. Her album Loretta Goggi (1975) established her own style, and her breakthrough came with Io nascerò (1980), a major milestone in her career. In 1981, she took part in the Sanremo Festival and came second with the song "Maledetta primavera", included on the album of the same name, which became a timeless classic of Italian music and enjoyed wide international distribution. The following album, Pieno d'amore (1982), confirmed his success. Throughout the 1980s, Loretta Goggi alternated between television and music, releasing landmark albums such as C'è poesia (1986) and Donna io donna tu (1988), while hosting variety and game-show programs, making her a true pioneer of Italian television. In the 1990s, she continued her career with programs such as Via Teulada 66 (1988) and film and theater appearances. She also recorded the album Si faran... canzone (1991) and the songs for the film Hello, Dolly (1999). She also remained active in the theater, appearing in musicals and developing a wider range of interpretations. After a more discreet period, she returned in 2007 with the soundtrack to the film Se stasera sono qui. In 2008, after 30 years together, she married Gianni Brezza. She published her autobiography, Io nascerò - La forza della mia fragilità (2013), followed by Mille donne in me (2016). In 2022, she takes part in the TV mini-series Più forte del destino, broadcast on Canale 5. On March 10, 2023, she returned to television with Benedetta primavera on Rai 1, marking her return to prime time after a 30-year absence.
