Lord Superior (Andrew Marcano), born on November 30, 1937, in Rio Claro, Trinidad, emerged as a formidable calypsonian at 16. His early hit, "Coconut", set the stage for a prolific career, highlighted by classics like "Spread Joy" and "Put the Women on Top". A pioneer, he was the first to own a record label, perform at Madison Square Garden, and produce a full-length calypso musical. Awarded the Hummingbird Medal Silver in 2015 and an honorary doctorate in 2017, Superior's contributions to calypso were profound. Superior passed away on November 24, 2018, leaving behind a legacy as a recognized artist and advocate for calypso music.
