Folk singer-songwriter Lizzy McAlpine was born Elizabeth Catherine McAlpine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 21, 1999, and grew up in nearby Narberth. She began writing songs at school and later studied songwriting at Berklee College of Music in Boston, leaving during her junior year to pursue music professionally. After releasing her debut EP, Indigo, in 2018, she spent a semester in Spain in 2019, where she wrote much of her independently released first album, Give Me a Minute (2020). The concert collection When the World Stopped Moving: The Live EP followed in 2021, and she made her late-night television debut that November by performing “Erase Me” on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Released through AWAL in 2022, her second album, Five Seconds Flat, featured Jacob Collier on “Erase Me” and Finneas on “Hate to Be Lame”. She subsequently performed an NPR Tiny Desk Concert and began her first headlining tour. The album’s folk-pop ballad “Ceilings” became her commercial breakthrough in 2023, reaching number 54 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 6 in the United Kingdom. That year, Lizzy McAlpine signed with RCA Records, mounted the End of the Movie Tour, and appeared on duet versions of Noah Kahan’s “Call Your Mom” and Niall Horan’s “You Could Start a Cult”. Her third album and RCA debut, Older, arrived in 2024 after the singles “Older” and “I Guess”. Incorporating indie folk and chamber pop, it reached number 93 on the Billboard 200 and was supported by concerts across North America and Europe. The expanded edition Older (and Wiser) followed later that year with five additional songs, including “Pushing It Down and Praying”. In 2025, Lizzy McAlpine made her Broadway debut as Nellie Collins opposite Jeremy Jordan in the Lincoln Center Theater production of Floyd Collins and appeared on its original cast recording. She made her television acting debut in the third season of School Spirits in 2026, performing “House of the Rising Sun” during her appearance. Lizzy McAlpine then announced her fourth album, Angel, which was released through RCA in September 2026 and preceded by “The Light in the Painting” and “Ugly Things”.
