Little Johnny Taylor, born Johnny Lamont Merrett on February 11, 1943, in Gregory, Arkansas, was an American blues and soul singer. He began his musical journey as a gospel singer before transitioning to secular music. In the early 1960s, he moved to Los Angeles and joined the Mighty Clouds of Joy, later performing with Johnny Otis' band. His breakthrough came with "Part Time Love", released in 1963 on Galaxy Records, which reached Number 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B Singles chart and number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100. This success was followed by other notable releases such as "You'll Need Another Favor" and his album Little Johnny Taylor, both released in 1963. In 1971, he signed with Ronn Records and achieved another Top 10 R&B hit with "Everybody Knows About My Good Thing". He also collaborated with Ted Taylor on the album The Super Taylors in 1973. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Little Johnny Taylor continued to perform and release albums such as Stuck In The Mud (1988), Ugly Man (1988), Part Time Love (1997), and You're Looking Good (1997) . His career spanned over four decades until his death on May 17, 2002, in Conway, Arkansas. Posthumously, "Part Time Love" was inducted into the Blues Foundation's Classic of Blues Recording list in 2003.
