LeVert is an American R&B vocal group from Cleveland, Ohio. Formed in 1983, the group consisted of Sean and Gerald Levert, sons of Eddie Levert, founder and lead singer of The O'Jays, and Marc Gordon. Their first single, "I'm Still", was released for Harry Coombes's Tempre label. In 1985, they released their debut album, I Get Hot, which featured tracks drawing vocal comparisons to Eddie Levert. The following year, they released Bloodline, including the hit "(Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop) Goes My Mind". Their breakthrough came with 1987's The Big Throwdown, which included the Number 1 R&B hit "Casanova", a crossover pop chart success reaching number 5 and a UK Top Ten. Additional hits from this album were "My Forever Love" and "Sweet Sensation". The band continued their success with Just Coolin' in 1988, nominated for Best R&B/Urban Contemporary Album at the 1989 Soul Train Music Awards. Both The Big Throwdown and Just Coolin' received gold certification. In the 1990s, Gerald Levert began dividing his time between LeVert and his solo career. The band released three more albums: Rope a Dope Style, For Real Tho', and The Whole Scenario. Rhino Records released a greatest hits album in 2001. Gerald Levert died of a drug overdose in November 2006, followed by Sean Levert's death in March 2008 from complications related to sarcoidosis and xanax withdrawal while incarcerated.
